“Chilean Dance” live video from The Frethouse

Played at The Frethouse in downtown Covina on May 17. It’s a really cool guitar store that’s been around for decades and they host concerts in their basement. While most of their acts are folk/bluegrass/fingerstyle/country, some top CG names like Scott Tennant, Andrew York and Evan Hirschelman have also played there.

Here’s a clip from the 2nd half of the concert. The piece is Andrew York’s “Chilean Dance”, which is off his “Into Dark” CD. It’s not well-known, in fact I don’t think Andy plays it in his concerts anymore. I found a few places in the music which would benefit from the 10-string’s extended range so I made the tweaks.

Enjoy!

Happy Birthday, FrancisM!

Today, Oct. 4 2013, would’ve been Kiko’s 49th birthday and I’m pretty sure that if he was still with us he wouldn’t look a day over 24! I miss him and I try to re-connect with him through music every chance I get.

A lot of people have seen my FrancisM tribute on 10-string guitar but here’s a rare video where I actually sing the words. This was shot back in 2010 at a gig in West Covina, CA.

Gig Report: First gig with the Marshall

smoke_marshall

Played a gig with Mystic Reign last night in Victorville, CA and used my recently acquired Friedman-modded Marshall head for the gig. My setup worked pretty well! More than enough volume on tap, and TONE for days! Nothing beats a 100w beast pushing enough air for you to feel the hairs on your forearms move!

I’ll need a proper effects loop to route my delay and reverb into as running them in front of the amp makes their levels unpredictable. Looks like the Bad Cat Unleash attenuator/boost is the answer, will report back when I get it.

This clip is a good demo of my use of the amp. My Explorer has a 6-way toggle switch which allows me to get single coil sounds as well as full humbuckers. You’ll also hear the RC Booster as an attenuator (reverse boost), the 95Q Wah and the Dunlop Hendrix Tribute Unvibe.
